The Dogs

The Dogs of the Black Dog Barnyard:

Fisher (Sea Fever's Hook, Line, and Sinker)
DOB September 26, 2022
Joined our family on December 29, 2022
This sweetheart is a total love-bug, full of joy and a little bit of mischief.  Playful and goofy, he is always ready for a run in the woods or a wrestling match with his brothers.

Woodrow (GoldenAsset's Sack of Sugar)
DOB December 6, 2018
Joined our family on March 15, 2019
This adorable stinker is a fun-loving, confident, social little Basset with a big personality.

Grayson
 DOB May 5, 2016
It happened again, a second foster stole our hearts!  Cutie pie Grayson joined our family permanently in June of 2017.  This ridiculous muppet dog is full of energy, happy as can be and a total joy to be around!

Buster
DOB June 17, 2015 - March 18, 2024
Adopted July 2016
The one who stole our hearts and turned us into foster failures.  Buster was full of beans and the happiest dog we've ever met.  He loved to romp in the woods, wrestle and horse around, snuggle on the couch and get loads of love and care.  He came to us as a foster and wiggled his way into our hearts.  He brought us years of joy, and left us far too soon due to kidney disease.

 Bébhinn
June 5, 2013-August 26, 2020
Adopted on April 16, 2015
Sweet, gentle, goofy, and utterly adorable, this beautiful Wolfie joined our pack after her owners opted to give her away due to allergies.  She arrived at our farm and never looked back -- she loved to romp and play with the other dogs, race through the forest on our hikes, and curl up on the couch for snuggles in the evening.
We lost her to osteosarcoma and our hearts are broken.

DOB November 28, 2013-December 20, 2021
Joined our family on February 4, 2014
Full of life and loveable as can be, Cole is a gentle, fun loving, goofy boy who has a heart of gold.  Eager to please and always looking for fun, Cole loves being a farm dog and romping in the woods each day, "helping" with the chores (the way only a 160 lb puppy can) and playing with anyone who is ready to wrestle!

We lost him suddenly to cardiac arrest after a brief illness and a valiant fight and are left heartbroken.

Floyd
May 15, 2006 - August 3, 2017
Adopted July 2006
Floyd the Basset Hound was a ridiculous, goofy, friendly, adorable playful boy who found his way into our home at the young age of 6 weeks.  His breeder was going to euthanize him because he had an umbilical hernia so a rescue group intervened and placed him with us and the rest is history.  He grew up around Newfs and had no idea that he wasn't one, even diving from boats (wearing a life jacket of course) he'd tow them to shore like the Newfs did!  Always a clown, Floyd aimed to please.  Food thief extraordinaire, the great calzone heist of 2008 will forever go down in history as the most momentous food thievery ever.
Our sweet boy left us brokenhearted after a long battle with cancer.

July 26, 2009-September 2, 2014
Adopted November 15,  2010
Finnabair our goofy, fun loving, counter surfing Irish Wolfhound.  This gentle giant came to us as a rehome at the age of 16 months.  She joined our pack and immediately stole our hearts (and our food).   She loved her life at our farm,  enjoyed her daily runs through the woods and was the sweetest, kindest girl in the world.  She left us brokenhearted far too soon due to hemangiosarcoma.

December 31, 2003 - February 28, 2014
Adopted April 2004
Neptune, our pride and joy.  A gentle, loving soul who kept watch over everyone at the Black Dog Barnyard.  Full of life, Neptune loved the country life, from swimming in the pond to hiking in the woods he was at home in nature.  A true working dog he loved to help with chores and was gentle with even the tiniest animals be it a baby chick or a mouse.
Our special boy left us after a brief battle with cancer.

Matilda
2004 (?) - October 15, 2012
Rescued December 2007
Sweet girl Matilda, a kind and gentle soul who had a heart of gold and loved to be around people.  She came to us on the verge of death, emaciated and barely clinging to life after living in a hoarding situation with 30 other Newfs.  With lots of TLC she recovered and thrived in our home,  although the impact of poor breeding and chronic malnutrition in her formative years  left her with permanent disfiguring orthopedic issues that were beyond repair and significantly impaired her mobility.  It was these deformities that took her from us when she was no longer able to use her back legs.
The horror that she endured prior to her rescue is what prompted us to start Newf Friends Newfoundland Dog Rescue so that no Newf would ever again go through the torture and misery that she endured.

September 7, 2000 - March 29, 2012
Our  whiskey stealing, fridge raiding, beer thieving, huggable, lovable, beautiful bear. The gentlest Newf who had a perfect calm, cool personality, with a huge heart, a wagging tail and the kindest spirit. She loved her life and everyone she met, giving us all the love her heart had, until her heart just couldn't give anymore.
December 8, 2002 - January 9, 2012
Our beautiful little bean, Zoë was a playful girl with a sassy spirit, loads of love to give and much to teach us.  She was a stunning Newf, with eyes that could melt even the coldest heart.  She was taken from us far too soon by osteosarcoma.

Quentin
December 20, 1995 - June 9, 2006
Not a Newf, but boy this fella' loved to swim!  Quentin was a happy boy who was full of energy and loved his life.   A snuggly boy who played hard and rested hard, he taught us so much.  He enjoyed a long life and was brave and inspiring throughout his battle with hemangiosarcoma with his zest for life and unwillingness to give in.

 April 20, 1999 - January 15, 2004
Our first rescue, Maggie was an adorable social butterfly who loved everyone she met.  With her spikey hair and wagging tail she could always bring a smile.  A charming love-bug who lived her life in the moment, she was always happy and full of life right until the moment she left us so suddenly one night from a ruptured spleen.

September 20, 1996 - May 8, 2003
Our first Newf and the girl who started our love affair with this breed.  A gentle giant in every sense of the word, Wicca was everything a Newf should be and more.  A truly magnificent newf , Wicca was one in a million.  She left us far too soon after a brave battle with osteosarcoma and is greatly missed.

Our love of the Newfoundland Dog breed has brought us to be very active in rescue work, both with Newfoundlands and All Breeds of dogs.

As founders of the Newf Friends Newfoundland Dog Rescue here in Ontario we are committed to helping Newfs in need.  We share our home with several dogs including Newfs, and usually have a foster (or three!) living with us.

Visit Newf Friends at www.newf-friends.ca to learn about all of the work we do to help Newfoundland Dogs in need.
