Ducks

After a very long winter, it finally feels like Spring here in cottage country.  Our pond is open and the migratory birds are back.  We've spotted herons, geese, mallards, mergansers and more.

Wild birds aren't the only ones enjoying our pond, our rouens have been out swimming around and having a great time splashing in the water.

Spring thaw

Finally Spring is here.  With heavy rains and mild temperatures the snow and ice in the bush is melting and making it's way down from the top of our property into our pond.   The water is rushing full force through our paddock right now making for some pretty photo opportunities.

Ice Storm

It seems we all have to wait a little longer for Spring to arrive as we were hit by another winter storm yesterday.   Things got a little slippery here at the Black Dog Barnyard but not everyone retreated to the safety of their shelters.

Lovely girl Danika wanted no part of hanging out in the dry, warm barn -- she insisted on spending the day outside in the ice, and Jo-Jo of course opted to follow suit.

The goats on the other hand stayed warm and dry,  preferring to hang out in their goat house rather than venture out into the nasty weather.  Yolanda and Mia are comfy as can be........

Sweet fella' Marcellus is seen here peeking out from his goat hut, where he spent the day hunkered down munching hay and watching the ice storm around him.
